On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Local Organizing Committee of U-17 Women’s World Cup India alongside the Western India Football Association restarted FIFA Legacy Program for the upcoming U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Legacy program was restored by launching the Coach Education Scholarship Program where 21 young female aspirants were enrolled for the AIFF ‘E’ License course and were trained the theoretical and practical elements of the game adhering to all the safety measures in the Cooperage Stadium, Mumbai.
The event signifies the starting of Coach Education Program for women in a structured way and will be carried out in Pune, Thane, Nagpur, Kolhapur and other parts of Maharashtra with support from the Government of Maharashtra and the Western India Football Association.
Speaking about the event, Hon. General Secretary of WIFA, Mr Souter Vaz said, “We are very happy to host the event here at the Cooperage. The resurgence of such activities is a testament to normalcy being restored, and we’re committed to contribute towards women’s football”
Speaking at the event, Tournament Director of the LOC of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 and AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022, Roma Khanna said, “We’re extremely pleased to restart activities for the U-17 Women’s World Cup. It is important to us that the community benefits from hosting the tournament and today’s event signifies a new start. Having more female coaches at grassroot level is vital to having more young girls and women taking up the sport.”
The event was graced by senior officials and the Chairperson of Women’s Committe for WIFA, Madhurima Raje. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is slated to take place in 2022.
