Ahead of Maharashtra’s Senior Women’s National Championship encounter against Arunachal Pradesh tomorrow, 29th of November, team WIFA conversed with Captain Murial Adam and Vice Captain Kimberly Fernandes on preparations and expectations from the squad.

Responsibilities as a captain
(Murial) Being one of the experienced players in the team, I feel, now, I have the responsibility to lead by example. We have youngsters accompanying us and I should lead them on and off the field. We really have a good set this time, and I believe we can put up a good show.
Target for the tournament
(Murial) We’ve been putting in efforts on the practice ground. We will do the best we can; and I’m confident as a team, we’re going to perform well. The aim is to focus on one game at a time, continue scoring goals, winning, and moving forward. The ultimate motive is to bring the trophy home.
Expectations from the team
(Kimberly) So, this year, we’ve had a long camp for over a month. We expect to go there and play well. The aim at the moment is to qualify past the group stages. Everyone’s really excited and looking forward to playing the upcoming game.
How do you motivate the team?
(Kimberly) It is really important for us to guide the team being the senior players. Especially me. I’ve been around for a while and I look forward to helping the youngsters play as a solid unit. We have a good set of young players, who pump fresh energy into the team. Overall, the dressing room is vibrant and everyone has been very supportive throughout.
Maharashtra is pitted in Group-E against Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Sikkim. All matches of Group-E will be played in EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode.
