Project Future Referees is a two-year development program for the best young referees (below 25) from across Asia who will be groomed to be the future top refereeing proponents in the continent and on the world stage. The model is divided into four courses and the referees have to make the cut with each passing course.
However before the course, each participant has to go through a selection process from the Festical of Football which is held in each zone of AFC. For batch 2011 it was held in Yazd, Iran. There was a fitness test and matches and 4 candidates were selected including Rahul D’sa from India
AFC Project Future – Selection Course
Twenty young referees including two women representing 14 member associations took part in the six-day course held the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. The course was instructed by AFC Project Future Referees Programme Manager George Cumming (SCO) and AFC Elite Referees Instructor Shamsul Maidin (Singaapore) and Ishiyama Noboru(Japan). The participants were exposed to several topics during the course such as The Role of the Referee, Fitness Test Preparation, Qualities of a Top Referee, Match Control, Match Preparation and more. At the end of the course, the participants were tested to consolidate their understanding and grasp of the subject matter to determine the members of Batch 2011. 13 were selected from this batch for the Project Future Batch 2011
AFC Project Future – 1st Development Course – Kulala Lumpur, Malaysia. – February 2012
With the theme “Setting New Targets”, the six-day course will expose the young referees to various important topics such as the roles of the referees, consistency in applying the Laws of the Game, match control, match analysis and debriefing and more.
AFC Project Future – 2nd Development Course – Male, Maldives – November 2012
Refereeing in the local league of Maldives was a great achievement for the Project Future referees where they broadened their experience during the six-day development programme. The Batch 2011 members refereed 12 matches in FA Maldives’ Dhiraagu Dhivehi League third division and two semi-final matches in the FA Cup 2012.
The course was instructed by AFC Elite Referee Instructors John Chia and K Sankar as well as AFC Elite Referee Fitness Instructor Mohamed Hanim.
AFC Project Future 3rd Development Course – Fukuoka, Japan
Members of Batch 2011 of the AFC Project Future Referees development programme headed to Japan for their Third Development Course from March 20 to 25 2013 where they officiated the Sanix International Youth Soccer Tournament. The referees completed their Third Development Course in Fukuoka where they officiated in 11 matches in the Sanix Cup International Youth Tournament 2013. The course instructors were AFC Project Future Referees Manager George Cumming (SCO), FIFA/AFC Instructor Noboru Ishiyama (JPN) and AFC Instructor John Chia (SIN). One of the main topics was Tactical Awareness where Japan youth assistant coach Yasuhiko Kimura shared tactical. The training referees were privileged to get special session on tactical awareness from Kimura, an AFC Coaching Instructor and Assistant Coach of Japan U-15 and U-17 national teams. During his session, Kimura (pictured) explained the importance of understanding the strategy or team tactics in a match and explained various tactics used by teams and players. AFC Final Development Programme, Kulal Lumpur Malaysia
The AFC Project Future Referee Batch 2011 successfully graduated today after a rigorous development course of two years. A total of nine young referees who made it into all four development courses organised in the span of two years are from nine different member associations of Asia.
The candidates were selected through a pool of more than 100 aspiring referees from the AFC Football Festival organised at different regions of Asia in 2011. A total of 20 made it into the selection course organised in Kuala Lumpur and only 13 made it into the first development course which followed with 12 participants in the second development course held in the Maldivian capital Male’. Only nine participants made into the third course in Fukuoka Japan and all of those participants successfully graduated from the course after completing the final development course which concluded today.
The graduates are: Zhang Cheng (China), Rahul Eric Dsa (India), Zaid Thamer (Iraq), Takuma Matsuda (Japan), Kim Woo Sung (Korea Republic), Khalid Salleh Alturais (Saudi Arabia), Hanna Hattab (Syria), Chen Hsin Chuan (Chinese Taipei) and Nayim Qosimov (Uzbekistan). — with Rahul D’sa and Shirley Gabriella.
