Having put on a cracking show against Mohun Bagan AC, the 2-1 result
Pune FC posted was huge in several respects. Pune FC Coach Derrick Pereira summed it up saying, “Overall the performance was enjoyable.”
He added, “It is a very important win for us. Excellent teamwork and good effort from entire team, which finally helped keep aside the pre-match pressure of doing well against a good team.”
On the opening half hour of the game, the coach explained, “Initially we were losing the ball especially in the attacking third, but then we came back after going down and started combining well.”
Ask Derrick about early substitution made and he explained, “We realised that we lacked punch upfront and thus had to bring in another striker (Jeje Lalpekhlua) which made the difference,”
The coach also had a word for the midfield that combined well and moved the ball around. “There was a lot of hard work put in.”
With Pune FC perched in the Top-5, Derrick did not want to look deep into the league.
“It’s an open league so far and you’ll never know. Many teams are really fighting for the title. The first leg has shown that the difference between teams is minimal and the team that wants it more on the day will win.”
