Oil & Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) finished on a high to emerge champions of the Elite Division of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league. ONGC, who recently earned promotion to the I-League 1st Division, defeated Central Railway 4-1 in the concluding league match at the Fr. Agnel’s ground, Vashi on Monday.
The architect of ONGC’s fluent win was their dashing striker Kailash Patil who scored a fine hat-trick. Joel Sequeira netted the fourth goal for the champions. Dennis George scored the lone goal for the losers.
With the three points earned from this win, ONGC finished at the top of the standings with 21 points to clinch the top honours. Indian Navy with 20 points finished runners-up. Akbar Travels and Mumbai Customs, both with 19 points each were placed third and fourth respectively. But the former with a better difference were placed third.
The champions went home richer by Rs 1 lakh, while Indian Navy received Rs 50,000 and Akbar Travels pocketed Rs 25,000.
