WIFA’s Mr. Lawrence D’Souza and Miss. Anju Turambekar were part of the FIFA Grassroots Leaders Course which kicked-off in Kalyani last week. The course focuses in identifying and creating Grassroots Leaders and is being attended by 23 participants who represent various States of the country.
Lawrence Dsouza has been coaching PIFA Academy along with a number of schools across Mumbai. He is very focused on developing the game at the grassroot level. A former Maharashtra State player, Anju has been working with Magic Bus for the past couple of years. She was part of the international coaching course (KNVB) in Netherlands and also recently represented India as a Coach in the Sports United Female Soccer Delegation which is an Exchange program organized by the Sports Initiatives, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State.
The Course is hosted by Kalyani Municipality and the theory and practical sessions are being held at the Kalyani Stadium.
The Chairman of the Kalyani Municipality, Dr. P.K. Sur welcomed the attendees and ensured full support not only for this particular Course but also for football activities of the All India Football Federation in the future.
25- 30 kids will be attending the practical sessions to be part of small-sided games for kids which will help the instructors demonstrate and explain the philosophy of small sided games philosophy and its implementation in Grassroots Football to the participants.
The Course being conducted by Scott O’Donell will end on November 6, 2012 with a Grassroots Football Festival.
