In a highly anticipated encounter, Maharashtra faced off against Railways, both entering the game undefeated and without conceding a goal.
The battle unfolded with Maharashtra fielding a formidable lineup, including Mansi Samre, Pranita Nimkar, Prerna Meshram in defense, Nishka Parkash in midfield, and Priya Rathod leading the attack.
The early stages saw Railways taking the lead as an unmarked Jabamani Tudu tapped in a corner at the far post. Maharashtra’s goalkeeper Payal Basude showcased her skills with a double save, denying Railways a second goal within minutes.
Despite being kept on the back foot, Maharashtra showed glimpses of offensive prowess. Around the half-hour mark, they came close to scoring, but a collision with the Railways keeper led to the referee calling a foul. Moments later, another shot found its way straight into the hands of the Railways keeper.
Around half hour mark, a Railways attack from the right saw Anju connecting a cross well to double the lead and peg Maharashtra’s momentum back as the first half concluded with Railways leading 2-0.
The second half witnessed Maharashtra striving to mount a comeback. Nishka Parkash and Aishwarya combined effectively on the left, creating attacking opportunities, but Railways defenders thwarted the attempts.
Maharashtra’s determination remained evident as they pressed forward. Captain Aishwarya Bhonde connected with Samrudhi in attack, releasing the ball for Sakshi Hiwale, who found herself through on goal. However, Railways goalkeeper Bishnu Mahanta displayed agility, coming off her line to block the shot.
Despite the relentless effort, Maharashtra couldn’t breach the Railways defense, and the game concluded with a 2-0 victory for Railways.
The setback does not dim Maharashtra’s prospects, as their outstanding record of three wins and an impressive goal difference of 31 keeps them firmly in contention for the final round, positioning them as one of the top runners-up.
