An eight-goal thriller saw Kenkre FC breezing past Football School of India (FSI) 5-3 in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) Preliminary Round.
23rd September 2017, Mumbai: In-form Kenkre FC faced Football School of India (FSI) on Matchday 16 in WIFA Women’s League – Indian Women’s League (IWL) Preliminary Round at Cooperage Stadium on Saturday evening. An eight-goal thriller followed as Kenkre FC registered a 5-3 victory against Football School of India to earn maximum points.
Kenkre FC’s Mamta bagged a spectacular hat-trick, whereas, Dorothi and Manisha scored apiece. Meanwhile, for Football School of India (FSI), Mamta Acharya, Jyoti, and Ankita scored one each which proved too little in front of a high-flying Kenkre FC side.
It took the Girls in Yellow less than five minutes to open the scoring when Dorothi made a bombarding run into the box and comfortably placed her effort into the back of the net. Football School of India (FSI) responded pretty well as they changed their gear and took control of the match proceedings for the major share of the first-half.
The pressure they inflicted on their counterpart finally paid off when Mamta Acharya levelled the score after a sublime finish in the 28th minute of the match. A few minutes later, FSI’s Ankita doubled the lead and for the first time in the match, FSI was in driver’s seat. Ankita lobbed her effort beautifully from the edge of the box, leaving Kenkre FC’s goalkeeper with no chance to save it.
Although just when FSI thought they would go into the break with a cushion lead, Kenkre’s star forward Mamta scored two quick goals to put her side in the lead once again. Zinnia Devi’s inch-perfect corner was met by Mamta’s looping header which levelled the score before Dorothi Oreya set up Mamta again who made it 3-2 at half-time.
Kenkre FC carried their free-flowing attacking football to the second-half where they completely dominated the proceedings. FSI’s Jyoti did get the equalizer in the 53rd minute but Kenkre’s Mamta had other ideas.
The no. 10 completed her hat-trick in the 55th minute when Manisha’s free-kick was finished off by Mamta. With the time running out for FSI, in the last minute, FSI’s counter-attack was intercepted in the midway which allowed Kenkre’s Manisha to fancy her luck from long way out. And, just as she thought, Manisha’s long-range attempt went all the way into the back of the net, giving Kenkre FC an all-important victory.
