26th August 2017, Mumbai: On the 5th day of WIFA Women’s League – Indian Women’s League (IWL), a brilliant second-half display against Football School of India (FSI) gave Kenkre FC their first win of the campaign.
Football School of India (FSI) made a terrific start as they kept on attacking to break the deadlock. Kenkre FC who has, so far, not played up to their mark didn’t have a good first-half.
Midway into the first-half, FSI broke the deadlock when Pooja Dhamal danced past couple of defenders to slot it past Kenkre FC’s goalkeeper. Kenkre’s defense stood still as a moment of brilliance from Pooja completely stunned them.
As compared to first-half, Kenkre FC displayed a contrasting performance in the second and in some style. FSI who was touted as the favorites now was at the receiving end.
One of Kenkre’s most consistent performer in this campaign, Manisha, received the ball possession on the left-flank. She looked up at the target and unleashed a curling drive which sailed past FSI’s goalkeeper. The game was suddenly on.
Manisha’s goal made it 1-1 and the pressure was now on FSI. With minutes away for the full-time, Kenkre FC finally completed their comeback when Striker Mamta’s deflected shot went in the back of the net to give the girls in yellow a 2-1 lead. Kenkre FC stood firm and composed in the dying minutes to record their first win of the campaign.
