Earlier today. All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced the 23 players who are set to represent Indian Football Team in the upcoming SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship which will be played in Bhutan. Head Coach Firmin D’Souza, who is based from Mumbai (Maharashtra) had a small chat with the AIFF officials just before the announcement of the squad.
“We have a very talented squad and the girls are improving every day”, said Head Coach Firmin D’Souza. “Most of the countries participating in the SAFF Cup have shown major improvement over the last 2 years, especially Bangladesh as they qualified for the AFC Championship last year, won the SAFF Cup last year and this year in April went onto win the Four nation CGI Youth Football tournament.”
“They certainly seem to be a very formidable side and we will have to prepare well to face them. We will not leave an inch in our efforts to do so,” Firmin concluded.
Apart from witnessing Firmin D’Souza and Goalkeeper Coach Abdul Kadir being involved from Maharashtra with the Junior National side, a total of four players has also been called from the state. Priyanka Sujeesh, Mehak Lobo, Jhanvi Shetty and Anjali Barke, are all set to represent their country which is nothing but an immense achievement, for India and Maharashtra both.
