I-League side Salgaocar FC have found in Englishman David Booth a suitable replacement for their head coach Karim Bencharifa, who had last week tendered his resignation to join Kolkata side Mohun Bagan AC.
64 year old David Booth would join on November 18 and until then assistant coach Peter Valles would be the interim coach at the Goan club.
Club secretary Raj Gomes told PTI, “We have appointed David Booth for this I-League and he will be joining the club on November 18.”
The Barnsley-born Booth has prior coaching experiences in India having coached previously in Mumbai at now closed down Mahindra United and Mumbai FC, while with the Jeepmen he won numerous titles, at Mumbai FC he helped the club gain promotion to the I-League in their first year of existence.
It is interesting to note that David Booth will replace Moroccan Karim Bencharifa as both coaches had been candidates for the job at Mohun Bagan a few days ago, but Karim due to his prior experience at the club and Booth’s open and direct approach didn’t suit the Kolkata sides management.
Meanwhile at Salgaocar FC they hope that under David Booth they will have a successful season ahead.
