High spirited Churchill Brothers make a short trip to Kerala to take on the hosts Chirag United on Wednesday. Churchill Brothers cut down
the lead at the top of the table to just four after Manuel Gomes’ side got the better of runaway leaders Dempo in the last round in a crucial derby at Fatorda. Churchill Brothers are evidently bolstered by the return of Brazilian playmaker Beto in the middle of the park, as well as Steven Dias, Didika and Gourmangi Singh’s return from India’s SAFF cup winning squad.
After going down to Mohun Bagan at Kolkata in the fifth round, the Goan Reds have fought back pretty well to cement the second place in the table, garnering two victories out of three matches.
Chirag Kerala side is just one point adrift of the drop zone. The side from Kochi hoarded a much needed point at home in the last round against defending champions Salgaocar to take their tally to mere six points from eight games this season. Anil Kumar, who rejoined his old side on loan from Dempo made his presence felt scoring a late goal to clinch a point for the Kerala side in their successive I-League games.
Now the south Indian side welcome Goan Reds to their turf in a round nine fixture. Chirag United would be looking to challenge the might of the former champions and rectify their bad start to the season, which includes a maiden opening day victory.
Churchill Brothers would be looking to stay hot on Dempo heels as the squad would be definitely planning for another victory.
