Maharashtra kicked off their Santosh Trophy campaign in style with a convincing 3-0 victory over Gujarat at Vasco yesterday.
Maharashtra started on the offensive and were rewarded in the 6th minute when Paresh Shivalkar latched onto a cross from Captain Steven Dias to give them the lead. They continued to dominate but the game remained 1-0 at half-time.
The second half continued in the same way as the first with Maharashtra on the attack. They got their second goal in the 64th minute when striker Allan Dias dribbled past the keeper and finished well.
Sushant Bhivgade got his name on the scoresheet in the 90th minute with a neat finish past the keeper to give Maharashtra a comfortable opening victory over Gujarat.
They will now play Madhya Pradesh in their next game on 3rd February 2014. A win will seal their qualification to the next round of the tournament at Siliguri, West Bengal.
