St Stanislaus ‘A’ took a step closer towards the title as they defeated their ‘B’ team by 2-1 to reach the semi-final of the boy’s under-14 category during the WIFA Mahayudh’s Mumbai leg held at the Supari Talao, Bandra on Wednesday.
The school had registered as many as six teams in the competition, so that all their boys get a chance to play in the tournament. Even in MSSA tournament, the Football-crazy school has as many as three to four teams playing in the under-14 category alone.
Even though most of their senior players are away attending a camp, their ‘A’ team made it to the semi-final with an ease. Their coach Trevor Fernandes is confident that their team making it to the final. “Our under-14 coach Jubel sir and me decided that we registered all our teams in the tournament. The boys got much needed practice and playing time,” said Fernandes, who is officially their under-12 coach.
They had an easy pre-quarterfinal match as they eased past St. Paul’s ’A ’ team by 2-0 riding on goals by Kirsten D’ Almeida and Ryan D’Souza. “We play with a certain style. One main thing I teach to my students is maintaining discipline on and off the field. My main view is to increase the speed and stamina of my players as I feel it is the foremost thing required by a footballer. We follow all aspects of football like heading, clean tackling, man-marking, etc. I hope we progress ahead in the tournament,” he further said.
