The 48th Junior National Football Championship for the Dr BC Roy
Trophy kicked-off on January 18, 2012 simultaneously in two venues – Siliguri, West Bengal and Cuttack, Orissa. This year the Championship has been divided into two tiers.
Eight teams – Chandigarh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Goa, Orissa and Manipur have been seeded into the quarterfinal round of Tier 1. The seedings have been decided on basis of performance in last year’s Championship. Tier 1 has been divided into four clusters with four teams each. The top-placed team from each cluster will qualify for the next round while the two lowest ranked teams among all the four groups would be demoted to Tier 2 next year.
The remaining teams from last year’s qualifying round have been seeded in Tier Two. The two finalists teams in Tier Two would be promoted to Tier One next year.
